The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has commenced a major electricity infrastructure project aimed at ending a 15-year blackout in Rigasa community, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A statement by NDPHC’s General Manager, Corporate Communication and External Relations, Nazo Agim, said the project is facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), comprising a two-kilometre 11kV line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation designed to strengthen electricity distribution and improve power supply to residents and businesses.
It said the project reached a major milestone on Friday, October 23, 2026, with a groundbreaking ceremony performed by Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani.
The Convener of BAT-IG, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, said the intervention followed concerns raised by residents and reflected the group’s commitment to translating political participation into tangible community development.
He said the group believed political engagement should extend beyond campaigns and electoral mobilisation to include practical solutions to challenges affecting communities.
“When you identify a problem, you do not simply talk about it, you find a solution to it,” Atoyebi said.
He said BAT-IG had facilitated more than 100 interventions across different sectors, describing the Rigasa project as another step in its efforts to address community needs.
“Where there is a problem, we can help solve it. We will not merely complain about it. We will organise, mobilise and act,” he said.
Speaking at the event, NDPHC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to addressing the community’s electricity challenges.
Represented by the Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, Adighije reiterated NDPHC’s commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of improving electricity supply across the country.
She explained that although NDPHC’s primary mandate is power generation, the company’s interventions also extend to transmission and distribution infrastructure to address critical gaps and expand electricity access.
According to her, the Rigasa project represents a worthwhile investment that would ease residents’ hardship and demonstrate the impact of targeted infrastructure development in underserved communities.
In his vote of thanks, NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government and the community for their cooperation and support for the project.
The District Head of Rigasa, Hakimi Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended NDPHC’s management for its commitment to expanding electricity access in the community.
Other dignitaries included the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, who is the Grand Patron of BAT-IG, and Senator Abu Ibrahim.
Adeniyi Tinubu, Deputy Director, Logistics and Operations of the All Progressives Congress 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, was also among those recognised at the event.
